Ball Screw Repair

Ball Screw Repair
There are a range of issues that can cause a ball screw to malfunction. For example, it can happen that a small obstruction cab build up in the ball nut and, you may find that the ball nut cannot move easily. In this case ball screw repair is not that difficult. However continuous use of the ball screw apparatus can also cause it to cease working properly. If this is the situation, in general ball screw repair is sometimes more complex.
If you have have experience with a tool that contains devices such as these, it will be clear to you that ball screw repair is required if you notice inaccuracies in surfaces finishes or other outputs. This inaccuracy in output is termed rough running, an effect caused by problems with smoothness within the ball screw. Wear and tear happens as a result of friction of the ball bearings against the threads. Over a period of use the surfaces of the ball bearings will wear away the shaft’s interior grooves, and this will cause the ball bearings to follow a less precise path.
Screw Lubricant
Of course the use of lubrication will help to ease the erosion that is due to the movement within the ball nut, as well as helping to seal the components against dirt and dust increasing the life of the appartatus and lessening the need for any ball screw repair.
When using lubrication however make sure you don’t overuse it. When the mechanism is working, the oil or other lubricant may be squashed into the shaft of the ball nut making the cylinder shatter. Don’t forget that ball screw repair may be necessitated when the machine has been in use for a long time. Pipes and shielding lose their integrity through continuous use, which creates an opening that act as entrance points for small pieces of dust to the ball screw.
Finally a ball screw can literally break, which happens when the larger apparatus suffers a malfunction. Usually this is known as machine crash and results in a large amount of force being sent to the ball screw within a split second. This in turn may drive the ball screw shaft to deform. Alternatively it may crack the balls in the barrel or affect the ball nut casing. When events such as this occur the ball screw might not show the effects immediately after the event, but usually it will display the effects eventually and ball screw repair is then required.
Some erosion on a ball screw more often than not can be fixed, as the apparatus can be reground. Components of the screw may be substituted for new ones, but ball screw repair can be difficult in some cases.
